Q: Can I use one of my own photos as the background picture?
A: Yes! Just go to the settings screen and tap the "Custom" button. From there you can choose a background from your own photo library or saved photos.
Q: What if I want to end my game early? Do I have to wait for the clock to run out?
A: No! You can end you game early by double-tapping on the time in the top left corner of the screen.
Q: How does grabl decide what letters to give me when I get new tiles?
A: The letters you get are based on a probability distribution that approximately matches the frequency of letters used in common English language texts. That means it should (with a bit of creativity!) be easy for you to use the mix of letters you get to make words.
Q: Can I rearrange the tiles after I have already placed them on the board?
A: Yes, you can rearrange the tiles as much as you like! Maybe this is the secret to getting enough tiles to spell really long words...
Q: How many points do I get for spelling a word?
A: Well, that depends on how long the word is! Long words earn many many more points than short words. For example, a 5 letter word is worth twice as many points as a 4 letter word, and a 6 letter word is worth twice as many points as a 5 letter word.
Q: I keep running out of space on the board while I'm playing. What should I do?
A: A lot of people tend to build their boards down and to the right. Starting in the middle can make it hard to get up to the top left. Try starting your board higher up and to the left! (just scroll to the top left of the board before you start your first word)
Q: Is there a two player version of grabl?
A: Not yet. But if there is enough support of the current version, there may be in the future!
Q: Why doesn't grabl have cool background music?
There is no built-in background music in grabl because you play grabl on an iPhone or iPod Touch, which should already have your whole music library on it. Listen to whatever music you want while you play grabl! Just start the music playing before you start grabl and you're good to go.
Q: How do you pronounce grabl?
You should pronounce grabl as if it were spelt grabble.
